This 40hr foundational course accredited by the Yoga Alliance and spread over 2 weekends will focus primarily on the physical and energetic effects of Yin Yoga. The aim of this intensive is to help you learn how and why to practice Yin yoga so that you will feel confident and creative in a home practice and equip you to teach Yin in either a group class or a private one-to-one setting.

Topics will include:

  • Anatomy specific to Yin Yoga
  • Meridian Theory and Taoist foundations
  • Yin sequencing and therapeutic application
  • Modifications, props and safety in postures
  • Theory of exercise and counter balancing Yang
  • When to use Restorative in place of Yin
  • Meditation (Foundation methods of Buddhist Mindfulness and Shamatha)

This training will be offered at two locations in 2018 and limited to 20 people in each training:

Location: Red Kite Yoga, Spetchley Park Gardens, Spetchely, Worcester WR5 1RS

Cost: £400.00 (Early bird discount: £350 by Sept 30, 2017 for the Cheltenham training or by June 30, 2018 for Worcester training.)

A £100 non-refundable deposit will secure your place. Balance is due two months before the training. Early bird offer has to be paid in full by dates given. Refunds (deposit not included) will only be given if I can fill your place.

The cost includes a manual but you will be asked to bring your own meditation journal or to start keeping one.

Dharma Offering: A few spaces will be available at a reduced rate. Please contact Alex and briefly share why you feel you would benefit from a reduced rate for this training.

This Yoga Alliance affiliated Professional Advancement Course (PAC) is aimed at yoga teachers or serious students who would like to deepen their understanding and practice of Yin Yoga. Everyone will receive a certificate of completion but only qualified yoga teachers can use the training hours (40 in total) toward Yoga Alliance continuing education and advancement.

As with any yoga practice, it is essential that time is taken to integrate this work so that one begins to start teaching from experience rather than borrowed insights.

There will be homework given between the two weekends and a 2-3 page assignment that will need to be completed and emailed to Alex after the training is finished. More details will be given during the training.

N.B. The training weekends will comprise 30 contact hrs with 10 hours of required attendance in Alex’s Yin classes — attending/observing/assisting. Reading, research and self-practice will be additional. For those of you not living close by to Cheltenham please connect with Alex to discuss how best to make up those additional 10 hours.

5-day residential retreat at Gravito Healing & Retreat Centre, Portugal


Level II will focus on the subtle body and psychological realms. Once we are grounded in the physical practice and have created a foundation of steadiness and concentration we can start to turn the Yin postures into opportunities for deeper meditative states using them as a vehicle to generate insight, increase emotional awareness and engage in mind training.

Topics will include:

  • Anatomy of the subtle body
  • Pranayama, Mantra and the Voice
  • Meditation (from Shamatha to Vipassana)
  • Mind training/compassion practices
  • Buddha Dharma
  • Psychospiritual inquiry
  • Your role as a teacher/guide
  • Dinacharya (daily routine) and lifestyle in accordance with Ayurvedic philosophy

Prerequisite: Level 1 Fundamentals – or a foundation meridian-based Yin training – and a genuine interest in Buddhism, psychospiritual inquiry and Ayurveda. Committed students who are not teachers but looking to deepen their practice for their own benefit will be welcome to apply.

Cost: £780 (translates to: €325 full board & lodging, €565 yoga tuition which includes a manual)

Gravito is a quiet, magical spot surrounded by forests. There is a river swimming spot on the land with a waterfall, many walking trails and a lake close by.
